Wooden walkways protect fragile dunes from erosion from people walking on dunes. Some of these walkways are beautiful structures, some humble but useful wooden paths. They are part of the flavor of being at the beach. The dunes are very important for protecting the homes along the coast of North Carolina from waves and storms. This walkway is at the western end of the island in an area called The Point.
