Description
Interior view looking into multiple archways within Fort Macon, North Carolina. This navel fort was built in sand dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at what is now called the Fort Macon State Park. Construction of the fort took place between 1826 to 1834. It has been used in three wars and as a military prison. The Newport River flows through the Beaufort Inlet, connecting the river to the Atlantic Ocean. The waters wrap around most of Fort Macon. It is my hope that it will never again be needed for war, but will remain a museum relic of times past. 2014
